About Us

The Inn, built on land originally willed to Charles Bekem in 1852, started its life as the parsonage of the historic Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church. Completed in 1873, the house was built by Frank Smith and James Fields for Rev. Edward H. Bamett.

The current house was purchased by Chris and Ann Johnson in 2002, and has undergone extensive renovations. Attention to detail and the addition of updated amenities, while preserving the historic character of the home, have resulted in a handsome and welcoming setting. In every room, unlikely juxtaposition of color and texture, along with period antiques and oriental rugs collected from all over the world-and a few surprising touches -combine to create a uniquely personal home.

Lord Nelson Library
Having taught Naval History at Annapolis, Chris developed a deep respect for the British hero, Admiral Horatio Nelson. That respect is reflected in the library, which exudes Nelsonia in books, artwork and collectibles. Enjoy, and if you are intrigued, Chris can discuss the hero at length!
